WCWAA recreational Soccer supports ages 6 - 15 for both boys and girls. There are six age groups supported: U7, U8, U9, U10, U11/U12, U13/U14 and U15/U16. Each of these age groups participate in competitive soccer at a recreational level against other associations in Union County.
The Under 7 and Under 8 divisions play 7 vs 7 with four 12 minute quarters. There are a maximum of 12 players on a team.
The Under 9 and Under 10 players play 8 vs 8 with two twenty-five minute halves on a pitch sizing from 40 to 50 yards wide X 60 to 85 yards long.
The Under 11 and Under 12 divisions play 8 vs 8 with two twenty-five minute halves. Field sizes vary from 45 to 65 yards wide x 90 to 115 yards long.
The Under 13 and Under 14 also play 8v8 with two thirty minute halves on a larger filed 50 to 65 x 100 yards and is gender based.
The Under 15 and Under 16 also play 8v8 with two thirty minute halves on a larger filed 50 to 65 x 100 yards and is Coed.
If there is a lack of players per a gender, WCWAA has the right to form co-ed teams, please make note of this as it does in fact occur from time to time. If you are opposed to this, please state so on your registration.
All ages Under 7 and up play other club teams from other associations, so they travel at times (usually under 45 minute trips).
In recent years, teams from the WCWAA Soccer Program have won over half the Union County soccer tournaments, have put at least 9 teams in the State Rec Cup, and have come home with 1st place in the State championship. The 2000 WCWAA teams came away with 3 State Titles and our 2005 U10 Girls won the State Cup. Unfortunately NCYSA is no longer sponsoring the Rec State Cup.
Our spring season is only an eight-game season (six games are guaranteed) starting the latter part of March. Our fall season goes from the beginning of September until the beginning of November with 8 regular season games and a county tournament (up to 4 games).
Please note that our Recreational Soccer program is governed by the rules and policies set by NCYSA, the NC State Soccer organization. Their policy is that once your player registers with a Club, like WCWAA, your player is carded for that season, August - November, February - May, Fall and Spring seasons, and your player's card belongs to that Club during that time frame.
Our program is managed by volunteers that devote over 600 hours each a year to provide one of the best soccer clubs in Union County. These people help to organize teams, set up fields, maintain the grounds, buy equipment, work with the State Soccer Association and other clubs. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please contact George Sella at
